PROOF OF BEING
ARTIST | Sallie White
Informed by the idea of impermanence, Sallie White’s layered, moody paintings invite the viewer’s emotional connection. White describes her process as one of addition, subtraction, construction, demolition—a building up and scraping away of marks and gestures. The artist lives and works in Greensboro, North Carolina. Her work is shown and collected throughout the United States.
The nature of perception is that it is ever changing, a lens into the world colored by personal narrative. What gives shape to our own personal realities? Bold brushstrokes and watery drips bring energy and life force to this composition. Clusters of jewel-toned colors hang in the air, spilling an inky rain. Shapes emerge and recede, lift and fall, clash and embrace. ‘Proof of Being’ is an invitation for the viewer to shape their own story as seen through their uniquely shaped perspective.
