ARTIST | Strati Hovartos
Having grown up in Los Angeles, Strati Hovartos was surrounded by art and varied cultures from a young age. He studied photography at UCLA and discovered his true passion. His first real experience with travel came when he was stationed overseas after joining the US Navy as a rescue swimmer. Traveling all through Asia and the South Pacific in his early twenties began his lifelong obsession with photography on location. Working for the last 15 years as a rock photographer, Hovartos traveled the world with many successful bands documenting events. This has afforded him the opportunity to photograph in locations such as Russia and Africa. The latter of which has become a new obsession and direction for his next series. Photography has become the most significant influence on his life and his art, and he credits it as the only way he’s ever known to express his love for the world.
The thing about sand dunes is they refresh everyday. They are constantly changing and evolving. They start every day new, as if the day before never happened. Photographing the dunes has a lot of challenges.
